THE BEST 5 HOLES TO SEE IN THE ARNOLD PALMER INVITATIONAL.
By: Ergio Guitian A.
Bay Hill is located near Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. In this course,
the arnold
Palmer Invitational (former Bay Hill Invitational) is played since
1979. With 7300 yards it is a course that deserves strategy and precision in
each shot, given the presence of a lot of water that comes into play. If you
are on orlando golf vacations, here I
describe the best 5 holes to see in the arnold palmer invitational.
Hole 3. 434 yards, par 4, dog leg to the left. The tee is high, and the
fairway borders a lake on its left. Interesting to see the long hitters. On one
occasion, I saw Bubba Watson leave the drive only 15 yards from the green
hitting above the water.
Hole 6. 555 yards, Par 5, dog leg to the left. The hole is really a
parabola that borders the same lake, but on the other side. The drive is shot
above the water to a fairway that in the landing area of the ball is
perpendicular to the direction of the tee shot. The 2nd shot is towards a small
elongated green, flanked by the lake on it left side. Is a delight to stand as
a spectator at the end of the green next to the TV transmission tower.
Hole 16. The last 3 holes of this course can define the arnold
palmer invitational winner. The 16th is a par 5 of 511 yards. The tee
is low, and the fairway ascends to a flat area in the landing zone of the
ball where there are 2 cross bunkers, on each side. The 2nd shot towards the
green is downhill, with a water hazard in front. The player must decide whether
to hit the Green directly or play short before the lake. A classic risk-reward
hole.
Hole 17. Par 3 of 220 yards with a tee box high. The kidney-shaped green has water in front (which almost
does not come into play), on the right, and in the back. Positioning yourself
as a spectator between the 16th fairway and the lake to the right of the 17th
green allows you to see both holes clearly.
Hole 18. A straight 458 yards, Par 4. The tee shot is from a low tee box
to an uphill fairway that does not allow the player to see the landing area of
the ball very close to a lake on the right that narrows the fairway. Many
players decide not to use the drive and leave them a longer second shot over
the water to another kidney-shaped green lined by the front and right by water.
If you do not get a seat in the grandstand, placing yourself in the rough on
the right between the 18th fairway and the 16th tee, can give you a very good view
of the 2nd shot and the green of the final hole.
