TIGER WOODS AND JUSTIN ROSE: TWO STORIES, ONE WAY.

The road to success most of the time is not as easy as you might think. During this month we have seen it in the stories of Tiger Woods and Justin Rose.

Tiger woods struggles.

Until 2008 everything seemed to work properly in Tiger's life. After his fourteenth victory in a Major, the golfer announced that he would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. As if that were not enough, a year later the problems in her marriage that ended in divorce became public.

In 2013 there was a discreet recovery in his game, achieving his 79th victory on the PGA Tour in August of that year, but again physical problems appeared. Between 2014 and 2017 he underwent four spine surgeries. He says the worst was in the fall of 2015 when he could not get out of bed without help because of the pain.

In April 2017, before undergoing his fourth spinal surgery, Tiger told Nick Faldo at the Masters champions dinner that he did not think he could play again. In September of that same year he announced that he was hitting balls to 60 yards.

However, in this 2018 was reunited with his game achieving several outstanding performances, culminating with his 80^th. Victory, last weekend. The most anticipated return in the world of golf: Tiger is back and the crowds as well.

Now the tiger woods next event will be the Ryder Cup in Paris.

Justin Rose, another way.

Rose, the son of English parents, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to England at the age of 5 years old where he started playing golf seriously. After a successful and short career as an amateur, the world met him when he holed an approach on the 18th hole of the 1998 British Open, to finish in 4th place in his last amateur tournament.

He failed the cut in his first 21 tournaments as a professional and unlike Tiger, Rose won his first Major 15 years later, the 2013 US Open. In 1999 he got the card for the European Tour to lose it that year and recover it in 2001. It was only in 2002 when he won his first tournament as a professional and had to wait until 2007 to win the merit order of the European tour. In 2010 he won his first tournament on American soil and in 2016 he became the first Olympic gold medalist in golf since 1904.

Last week, Rose climbed to number 1 in the world golf ranking and won the Fedex Cup for the first time, after which he said, "never give up your dreams" in clear allusion to the 20 years it took him to reach that position. Justin Rose and tiger woods next event will be the 2018 Ryder Cup at Paris.

As you can see Tiger's career was more successful in his first 10 years, while Justin Rose has reached the goals in the second decade of his career, however, the Justin Rose and Tiger Woods struggles shows that for success there is only one way: work hard focusing on the objectives.

El camino al éxito la mayoría de las veces no es tan fácil como se podría pensar. Durante este mes lo hemos podido comprobar en las historias de Tiger Woods y Justin Rose.

 Los problemas de Tiger.

Hasta el 2008 todo parecía funcionar adecuadamente en la vida de Tiger. Después de su decimocuarta victoria en un Major, el golfista anunció que se perdería el resto de la temporada por una lesión de la rodilla. Por si fuera poco, un año después se hicieron públicos los problemas en su matrimonio que terminaron en divorcio.

En 2013 hubo una discreta recuperación en su juego, logrando su victoria 79 en el PGA Tour en agosto de ese año, pero nuevamente aparecieron los problemas físicos. Entre 2014 y 2017 fue sometido a cuatro cirugías de columna. El refiere que lo peor fue en el otoño del 2015 cuando no se podía levantar de la cama sin ayuda debido al dolor.

En abril 2017, antes de someterse a su cuarta cirugía de columna, le dijo a Nick Faldo en la cena de campeones del Máster que no creía que podría volver a jugar. En septiembre de ese mismo año anunció que estaba golpeando pelotas a 60 yardas. Sin embargo, en este 2018 se reencontró con su juego logrando varias destacadas actuaciones, culminando con su victoria numero 80 el pasado fin de semana. El retorno más esperado en el mundo del golf: Tiger volvió y las multitudes también.

Ahora, el próximo evento de Tiger Woods será la copa Ryder en Paris.

Justin Rose, otro camino.

Rose, hijo de padres ingleses, nació en Johannesburg, Surafrica y se mudó a Inglaterra a la edad de 5 años donde empezó a jugar golf seriamente. Después de una exitosa y corta carrera como amateur, el mundo lo conoció cuando embocó un approach en el hoyo 18 del Open británico de 1998, para culminar en 4to lugar en su último torneo como aficionado.

Falló el corte en sus primeros 21 torneos como profesional y, a diferencia de Tiger, su primer Major lo ganó 15 años después, el US Open del 2013.  En 1999 obtuvo la tarjeta para el Tour europeo para perderla ese mismo año y recuperarla en el 2001. Solo fue en el 2002 cuando ganó su primer torneo como profesional y tuvo que esperar hasta el 2007 para ganar la orden de mérito del tour europeo. En 2010 ganó su primer torneo en suelo americano y en 2016 se convierte en el primer medallista de oro olímpico en golf desde 1904.

La semana pasada, Rose ascendió al número 1 del ranking mundial de golf y ganó por primera vez la Fedex Cup, posterior a lo cual dijo “Nunca renuncies a tus sueños” en clara alusión a los 20 años que le tomó llegar a esa posición. El próximo evento de Justin Rose, al igual que Tiger, será la Ryder Cup de Paris, 2018.

Como pueden ver el camino de Tiger fue mas exitoso en sus primeros 10 años, mientras que Justin Rose ha alcanzado los objetivos en la segunda década de su carrera, sin embargo, las dificultades de Tiger Woods y Justin Rose demuestran que para el éxito hay un solo camino: trabajar duro centrándose en los objetivos.

MAIN MODIFICATIONS IN THE GOLF RULES 2019.

Since January 1st, 2019, the modifications of the golf rules adopted jointly by the USGA and the R & A will become effective. The main objectives of the golf new rules 2019 are that they are easier to understand and apply to all golfers; be more consistent, simple, and fair; and reinforce the principles and character of the game.

Here are some of the modifications:

1)      Ball at rest accidentally moved.

•         There will be no penalty when a player accidentally moves his ball during the search.

•         There will be no penalty when a player accidentally moves his ball, or the mark of his ball, when it is on the Green.

2) Ball in motion accidentally deflected. There will be no penalty if the player's moving ball accidentally hits himself, his equipment, his caddy, someone attending the flagpole, or a flagstick removed.

3) Taking relief and dropping.

•         Drop procedure. The only requirement is that the player holds the ball between the height of his shoulder and his knee, and let it fall freely through the air before stopping.

•         Relief area defined for dropping. The ball needs to be dropped and played within the defined drop area. The fact that the ball must necessarily be inside the relief area greatly simplifies in which situation it should be dropped again.

4) Lost ball. The time to search for the ball is reduced. A ball is lost if it is not found within three minutes (not like the current five minutes) since the search began.

5) Elimination of the double-hit penalty. The penalty for accidentally hitting the ball more than once has been eliminated.

6) In the Green:

•         Putting with the flag placed in the hole. There will be no penalty if the player plays a ball from the green and it hits the flagpole that is in the hole.

•         Fixing damage to the green. On the green you can fix the damage caused by shoe nail marks and any damage done by animal and you will not be more limited to fixing only ball marks or old holes.

•         Touching the line of putt on the green by pointing to the line. There will be no penalty if the player or his caddy touches the line of the putt, while doing so does not improve the conditions that affect his stroke.

•         Replacing the ball if it moves only after the player has marked, lifted, and replaced it. At any time, this happens on the green the player must replaces his ball without penalty, even if it has been moved by the wind or without a clear reason.

•         The caddy marks and lifts the ball on the green. There will be no penalty if the caddy does this without the express authorization of the player.

7) Penalty areas.

•         In golf rules 2019, the concept of obstacles disappears and is replaced by "penalty areas" that extend beyond water obstacles. The "penalty areas" marked in both red and yellow can now cover areas that the Committee decides to mark for this purpose (such as deserts, jungles or wild native areas) in addition to water areas.

•         Larger use of red penalty areas. Committees are given the discretion to mark all penalty areas as red so that lateral relief is always allowed (but they can still mark penalty areas as yellow where they deem appropriate).

•         Elimination of the option of relief in the opposite margin. The player will not be authorized to relieve himself of a red penalty area in the opposite margin from where the ball entered the penalty area for the last time (unless the Committee dictates a Local Rule authorizing it).

•         Removal of all special restrictions to move or touch things in a penalty area. There will be no penalty if the player touches or moves loose impediments (such as leaves, stones and twigs) or touches the ground with his hand or his club in a penalty area.

8) In the bunkers

•         Removal of special restrictions to move loose impediments: There will be no penalty if the player touches or moves loose impediments in a bunker.

•         Milder restrictions on touching the sand with your hand or a club when the player's ball is in the bunker. The player will only be prohibited from touching the sand (a) with his hand or club to prove the condition of the bunker or (b) with his club in the area immediately in front of or behind the ball, or when doing a practice swing or when doing the "backswing" for his stroke.

9) Promoting a faster pace of play. The pace of play is one of the great problems of golf today. In golf new rules 2019 is recommended that the player execute each stroke in no more than 40 seconds - and usually faster - once it is his turn to play. Players are strongly encouraged to practice "Ready golf" in a safe and responsible manner for convenience or to save time.

10) Ball lost or out of bounds: Alternative to stroke and distance penalty. The Committee is authorized to establish a local rule that allows golfers the option of dropping the ball near where it was lost or out of bounds (including the area of the nearest fairway), under the penalty of two strokes. Note: This Local rule is not intended for high levels of competitions.
